Italy beat France 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out to win the World Cup after an absorbing 1-1 draw in Berlin.

開始早々1分頃，FranceのFW12. Thierry HenryがItalyのDF5. Fabio Cannavaroと交錯したとき，顔にひじが入って脳震盪を起こしたようになり，pitchの外に出てしまう．5分頃再び戻るが大丈夫なのだろうか．6分頃，Franceの7. Florent Maloudaがpenality areaにleft hand sideから持ち込んだ場面で，ItalyのDF5. Fabio Cannavaroと23. Marco Materazziに挟まれるうにして倒れた．よく見るとfoulとなるようなchargeには見えないのだが，RefereeのHoracio Marcelo Elizondoの判定はPKとなる．

10. Zinedine Zidaneがふわりと浮かせたshotをしbarに当ってgoalとなった．France先制！Italyはball controlをして持ち込むがFranceのdefenceは堅い．そして18分頃，Italyはright hand sideからの21. Andrea Pirloのcorner kick deliveryにfar sideで合わせた23. Marco Materazziのheadが決まり同点となる．Italyのpaceではあったが，10. Francesco Tottiのところには良いballが集まらない．

はじめは何が起こったのか分らなかったが，Italyの23. Marco MaterazziがFranceの10. Zinedine Zidaneに向かって激怒させるようなことを言っているようなのが時間が経つとともに分った．あまりにも馬鹿げている．．．こんな結末があってよいのかと思った人は世界中にいるでしょう．110分頃，騒然としたところ他の審判の確認のもとに，10. Zinedine Zidaneにred cardが示された．10. Zinedine Zidaneは審判に何かを言っているが，World Cupの脇を通り過ぎて，彼はpitchを出て行った．

"There was a lot of verbals going on. It takes a lot to upset Zinedine Zidane but he shouldn't have reacted the way he did."
